FAQ

How fast do you ship?

Units are tested and photographed before packing. Shipped units go out FedEx Ground or Home Delivery to the contiguous US (no Alaska, Hawaii, territories, or APO/FPO), and tracking is emailed as soon as it ships.

Can I pick up instead?

Yes, in Tucson, AZ. Any unit that ships free is discounted (20% off, or 10% off professional monitors) when you choose "Local pickup" on its page. After you buy, we email you to set up a time. Third-party couriers (uShip, Craters & Freighters) are welcome for big units.

What if it arrives damaged?

Report it within 14 days of delivery on our Returns & Damage page with photos of the unit and the box. We'll email you a prepaid return label, and you're refunded once it's back and inspected.

How do I pay?

Checkout is handled by Stripe: all major cards, Apple Pay, and Google Pay. Sales tax is calculated at checkout based on your address.

Are your units also on eBay?

Many are. If a unit sells on either site, it comes down from the other. Buying here skips eBay's fees, and pickup buyers save up to 20%.

Do you buy CRTs?

We do, local or shipped. Send photos through the We Buy CRTs form and we'll make an offer.

Using test patterns

  • Let the CRT warm up for 15–20 minutes before judging color or geometry.
  • Degauss first (most sets do it at power-on; many monitors have a manual degauss in the menu).
  • Show the image at its native size, not stretched, so the grid's squares stay square.
  • Most geometry and color adjustments live in the on-screen or service menu. Some sets, especially older consumer TVs, need the case opened to fully calibrate geometry and convergence. CRTs hold dangerous high voltage even when unplugged, so follow established safety practices and read our CRT Safety guide before you open one up.

Testing With a Real Console: 240p Test Suite FREE · OPEN SOURCE

Our PNG patterns are great from a PC or media player. To test a CRT the way you'll actually use it, run patterns on the console itself. The 240p Test Suite by Artemio Urbina is a free, open-source homebrew program that outputs true 240p test patterns straight from the hardware. It's the standard tool in the retro community for checking CRTs, cables, upscalers, and lag.

Includes: PLUGE, color bars (SMPTE & EBU), color bars with grayscale, color bleed check, monoscope, grid, gray ramp, white screen, 100 IRE, sharpness, overscan, plus interactive tests like drop shadow, striped sprite, scroll, grid scroll, checkerboard, lag and timing/reflex tests, and a sound test.

Runs on: Genesis/Mega Drive, Sega CD, 32X, Master System, Saturn, Dreamcast, NES, SNES, Game Boy, GBA, GameCube, Wii, PC Engine/TurboGrafx-16, PlayStation, Neo Geo, Jaguar and more. You'll need a flash cart, optical drive emulator, or homebrew-capable console to run it.
